She is the London-born Tony and Grammy Award-winning singer and actress who some may know best from the Academy Award nomination she received for her performance in Harriet.
But, before she made it to Hollywood, she was working on stage in London. In 2013, she landed the role of Celie in The Color Purple. The show was quickly brought to New York, where Cynthia garnered much public attention and won a Tony Award for lead actress in a musical.
Cynthia’s first on-screen role was in 2018 as part of the ensemble in Widows. She has since starred in films such as Harriet and the biopic series Genius: Aretha.
