On Wednesday, failing President Joe Biden signed an unconstitutional executive order that aims to use taxpayer money to subsidize travel across state lines for the purpose of having an abortion. Nowhere in the Constitution is any President granted this authority. The Hyde Amendment expressly prohibits the use of taxpayer funds for this purpose.
Biden’s attempt to sidestep the Hyde Amendment and the United States Constitution is nothing more than an effort to pander to the extreme left wing of his own party. The United States Supreme Court rightfully sent the issue of abortion back to the states to decide. Any attempt by Biden is nothing more than pure politics.
Here in Nebraska, we are still waiting for action. The Governor should call a special session to define Nebraska’s abortion laws. If there are not 33 solid votes at this time, then it is time for Governor Ricketts to be a leader on the issue of life. He should force each member of the legislature to cast their vote and let their constituents know where they stand when it comes to protecting the lives of the innocent unborn.
It’s time for political courage and leadership.
