With the California Supreme Court’s terrible decision, Governor Newsom silenced the voice of 1.43 million voters who signed the petition to qualify the Taxpayer Protection Act for the November ballot. Direct democracy in California is a fundamental part of Californians’ ability to hold state government accountable. We must let the voters exercise their voice.
Instead what we saw yesterday was a one-party state where Newsom and his allies actively pushed to block voters from having any say in the burdensome taxes this state imposes, ensuring that the government’s irresponsible and unaccountable spending trumps the family budgets of hardworking Californians and local businesses.
