This week was packed with important work in Washington as we continue delivering on our promises to cut wasteful spending, secure our border, and protect American energy. I had the honor of chairing my first Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee hearing, answering your questions during my first Telephone Town Hall, and recognizing local heroes who make our community proud. There’s a lot happening in Congress, and I’m committed to keeping you informed every step of the way. Here’s what I did this week in Washington:
On Monday, I held my first Telephone Town Hall, giving me the opportunity to speak directly with the people of Brevard and Indian River counties about the issues affecting our community and country. I was able to take 20 questions from people across the hour-long Town Hall, on topics like DOGE, NASA, securing the border, fiscal responsibility, and protecting Social Security and Medicare. I enjoyed being able to hear directly from the people I’m elected to serve.
If you missed the Town Hall, you can find the full recording of it online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixQgVN4mpfc
On Monday night, I took to the House Floor with several of my colleagues to speak for an hour about the importance of America’s space program and space industry. I highlighted how America is experiencing a golden age for spaceflight, with the number of launches growing significantly every year. On top of being a matter of national importance to our economy, infrastructure, and national security, the space industry is central to our local history and local economy. I will continue fighting to ensure the Space Coast remains the launchpad of America’s future and that our country remains the undisputed leader in space.
On Wednesday, I led my first hearing as Chairman of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee, where we took a deep dive into NASA’s Artemis Program and the future of American space exploration. Expert witnesses testified on the challenges Artemis faces, the importance of a sustained presence on the Moon, and how this program sets the stage for future missions to Mars. With Artemis II scheduled to launch next April, we are at a critical moment in ensuring America leads the next era of space exploration. Falling behind China in the race back to the Moon would be a direct threat to our national security, technological leadership, and economic future. We cannot fall behind in our race to the Moon, or we risk losing the dominant position we currently hold in space. My colleagues and I on this committee are committed to ensuring that NASA is successful in the Artemis Program, and that they do so in an efficient manner.
This week, I was proud to support three key pieces of legislation on the House floor that deliver on the promises we made to you: Cutting waste, lowering costs, and putting America first. Here’s a quick rundown of what we accomplished and why I backed these bills:
First, we passed a budget resolution that lays the groundwork for a comprehensive bill to enact President Trump’s America First agenda. This budget is a blueprint to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our country. It calls for $1.5 trillion in savings by reining in wasteful mandatory spending, which has ballooned out of control and fueled inflation that’s hitting families hard. At the same time, it directs $300 billion toward securing our borders and strengthening our national defense. Importantly, it also sets the stage for preventing a massive tax hike by making the 2017 tax cuts permanent, extending tax relief for families making under $400,000 a year and small businesses that are the backbone of our communities. If these tax cuts are allowed to expire, the average taxpayer could end up paying almost 20% more in taxes every year.
Additionally, it pushes for slashing burdensome regulations and unleashing American energy production to create jobs and lower energy costs. I voted for this budget resolution because it’s a real plan to reduce government waste, secure our borders, protect your wallets, and grow economic opportunity for working Americans and families, exactly what you sent me here to fight for.
Next, we took on a costly methane fee from the Biden era (H.J. Res. 35). This rule raised energy prices for families already struggling to make ends meet, while kneecapping our domestic energy producers. I voted to ditch it because we need affordable, reliable energy from right here at home, not higher bills and more dependence on foreign sources.
Finally, we overturned a Biden administration rule (H.J. Res. 20) that would’ve banned many natural gas water heaters. This regulation was government overreach at its worst, taking away your choices and driving up costs, especially for seniors and low-income households. I supported this rollback to keep bureaucrats out of Americans’ homes and to protect peoples’ freedom to pick the products that work best for them.
The votes this week are about keeping my word to you: Fighting for common-sense policies that cut waste, lower costs, and put America first. I’ll keep pushing forward to make sure Washington serves you, not the other way around.
This week, I took to the House floor to recognize two outstanding individuals from Vero Beach whose service and courageous actions exemplify the best of our community.
Colonel Anthony Young has dedicated his life to serving both our nation and our local community. A retired U.S. Army officer, former mayor and councilman, and President of the Indian River Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, he has been a major advocate for veterans. Most recently, he led the effort to create a permanent memorial for local WWII veterans, ensuring their sacrifices are honored for generations to come.
I also had the privilege of recognizing Judie Kent, a nurse from Vero Beach whose quick thinking and medical expertise saved the life of a motorcyclist and father of five after a devastating roadside accident. Her selflessness and courage in stepping up when it mattered most is a testament to the strength and compassion of our community.
These two embody service, sacrifice, and leadership, and I was honored to highlight their contributions on the House floor. Heroes walk among us every day, and it’s important to recognize those who go above and beyond to make a difference! If you have any good news or know of local heroes you’d like to spotlight, please reach out to my office to help us share it with the community.
I’ll be back in Washington next week, continuing the fight to rein in government overreach, support our veterans, and advance policies that put hard-working Americans first. I’m also looking forward to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress on Tuesday night. As always, my office is here to help, whether you need assistance with a federal agency, have concerns you want to share, or know of a local hero we should recognize. Thank you for the honor of serving you in Congress!
